Sunday night Korean band, BTS marked off another milestone in their impressive career. The septet became the first korean artists to take the Grammy stage for a performance. Although it was not the solo stage they deserved, the group took the stage nonetheless as part of Lil Nas X’s “Old Time Road” set.
Making the feat more impressive was how it came to be. Late in 2019, group Leander RM (Kim Namjoon) collaborated with Lil Nas X on a remix of the chart topping song with a twist as the new track was titled “Seoul Town Road” paying homage to his roots.
RM could have taken the Grammy stage solo but chose to include his band mates in the history making performance. The piece was rearranged to give each of the seven members vocals and was accompanied with choreography full of swag. They made the most of their short stage time but left a lasting impression. In an interview in 2019 SUGA mentioned his next goal would be to reform at the Grammy’s and that Dream has been fulfilled alongside with RM’s statement of “we’ll be back” during their presentation at last year’s Grammy’s.
BTS also takes about their upcoming album, Map of the Soul: 7 in various red carpet interviews where they teased it as being their “hardest album.” Based off of the two tracks that have been released so far, “Interlude: Shadow” and the b side “Black Swan” new and old fans are in for an intense and hard hitting ride which will hopefully give them the recognition they deserve in the western market.
Take a look at the interviews and performance below. BTS is set to have their comeback stage for Map if he Soul: 7 on the James Corden Show January 28 as they perform “Black Swan” for the first time.
