It’s been close to 10 long months for BTS fan base, ARMY since the septet dropped an album. The last chart topper Map of the Soul: Persona still has songs gracing the radio waves as the South Korean band announced their comeback with Map of the Soul: 7.

The band made their subtle announcement Monday as they revealed the news that their next album would be released on February 21st with accompanying comeback Map. This Map is a schedule of the many events that will lead up to the albums release which include not one but two comeback trailers along with photo concept reveals and “Connect: BTS” from various cities around the world.

The teaser images they’ve revealed so far show the album will be themed in blue with the 7 bing multicolor and very similar to the day version of their previous album Young Forever: The Most Beautiful Moment in Life. This feeds into the fan theories that we are getting a second but very different view of older albums. Much like Persona called back to Skool Luv Affair it seems like fans will be reliving aspects of the Young Forever timeline.

Staying on track with the comeback Map (all on KST) Thursday morning greeted fans with the first comeback trailer titled “Interlude: Shadow” which features Min Yoongi aka SUGA. The video has a lot of callbacks to previous eras as well as depicting the “shadow” concept heavily. It’s no surprise, as we know this time around the theme of their albums will be dealing with the map of the human soul, the many aspects of human psyche that make up a person’s being: the persona, shadow, ego and self.

As Yoongi raps in English and Korean, we get to see glimpses of his famous persona as well as the shadow that surrounds it, showing a juxtaposition between his public personality and the shadow that he tries to hold back. The lyrics of the song are very revealing to the struggle that fame brings as Yoongi explains the fear and hardships that come from achieving your dreams. The hook “I wanna be a rap star/I wanna be the top/ I wanna be a rock star/I want it all mine/ I wanna be a rich/I wanna be king/ I wanna gonna go win/I wanna be me” is later rivaled by “The moment I’m flying high as I wished/My shadow grows in that blasting stark light/Please don’t let me shine/Don’t let me down/Don’t let me fly/Now I’m afraid…”

Later on he comes to realize and accept that his dreams and his shadow live within him and he must find a balance to survive his life. It’s also interesting to note that just how “Into: Persona” was similar in beats as Skool Luv Affair the beat to “Interlude: Shadow” is the same one used in “Intro: O! RUL8,2?”, another way of BTS linking their past to their present. We also see the worlds “O! RUL8,2?” pop up in scribbles throughout the video.

Take a look at the trailer for “Interlude: Shadow ” below as well as the English translation to the song.

I wanna be a rap star
I wanna be the top
I wanna be a rockstar
I want it all mine
I wanna be rich
I wanna be the king
I wanna go win
I wanna be …

I wanna be a rap star
I wanna be the top
I wanna be a rockstar
I want it all mine
I wanna be rich
I wanna be the king
I wanna be me
I want a big thing
Oh boy let me see
I got a big dream yeah

Woo I wondered everyday how far I’d go
I came to my senses and I find myself here
Yeah, hmm, shadow at my feet
Look down, it’s gotten even bigger
I run but the shadow follows
As dark as the light’s intense
I’m afraid, flying high is terrifying No one told me
How lonely it is up here
I can leap in the air but also plunge Now I know running away could be an option too, pause
People say, there’s splendor in that bright light
But my growing shadow swallows me and becomes a monster
Up high, high, and higher, higher
I only go higher and vertigo overtakes me
I rise, rise.
I hate it
I pray, pray, hoping to be okay

The moment I’m flying high as I wished
My shadow grows in that blasting stark light
Please don’t let me shine
Don’t let me down
Don’t let me fly
Now I’m afraid
The moment I face myself brought lowest
It so happens that I’m flying the highest
Please don’t let me shine
Don’t let me down
Don’t let me fly
Now I’m scared
Don’t let me shine

I wanna be a rap star
I wanna be the top
I wanna be a rockstar
I want it all mine
I wanna be rich
I wanna be the king
I wanna go win
I wanna be …
I wanna be a rap star
I wanna be the top I wanna be a rockstar
I want it all mine
I wanna be rich
I wanna be the king
I wanna be me
I wanna be …

Yeah I’m you, you are me, now do you know
Yeah you are me, I’m you, now you do know
We are one body, sometimes we will clash
You can never break me off, this you must know
Yeah yeah can’t break me off, whatever you do
Yeah you’ll be at ease if you admit it too
Yeah succeed or fail, whichever way you flow
Yeah you can’t escape, wherever you go
I am you, you are me, now you do know You are me, I am you, now do you know We are one body and we are gonna clash
We are you, we are me, this do you know…
