Universal finally revealed the first trailer for Tom Hooper’s highly anticipated film adaptation of the iconic musical, Cats and its a CGI feast to the eyes.
The film features the very famous score by Andrew Lloyd Webber, including Grizabella’s signature song “Memory.” Adapted from Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot and Webber’s musical, the screenplay is written by Lee Hall (Rocketman) and Hooper.
The trailer leads with nostalgia as we see Hudson in singing the melancholic theme and we get glimpses at the lives of some of the other iconic characters. It is clear just how much work went into make this seem realistic as we see the actors don CGI whispers and fur rather than broadway style makeup.
Universal also released some behind the scenes footage from the naming of he film which shows footage of cast members including Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, Judi Dench, James Corden, Rebel Wilson, Ian McKellen, and Jason DeRulo, which give fans a sense of the production design of this film. We get to see the sets that are built to scale… for a cat, so everything is oversized and huge.
Cats hits theaters December 20, 2019.
