The name of musician Edo Ferragamo may not be familiar to music fans outside of the New York music scene, but it’s only a matter of time until his picturesque songwriting and searing guitar playing on his newest single titled “Common People” hypnotizes the music masses worldwide. We spoke with Ferragamo about his musical childhood, his deeply rooted love for the guitar and his single “Common People” in addition to many other topics.

The Beginning

Ferragamo discovered his passion for music at the age of 12, when he got exposed to the film “School of Rock” starring Jack Black, Ferragamo recalls clearly, “I remember I was fascinated from the sound of the electric guitar, so I immediately went down into the basement where my mom had an old classical guitar and started messing around with it.”

Ferragamo followed up with guitar lessons and he immediately fell enamored with music, “By the time I was 15 or 16 I knew that music was going to be the most important thing in my life and that I was dedicated to it whole heartedly!”

The Italian native began having aspirations of moving to US to study at Berklee College of Music. Ferragamo’s dream became reality when he got the acceptance letter from Berklee College, “Getting accepted into Berklee College of Music was a big step for my family and I, cause it was like “ok things are getting more serious here…” For me, the dream was always to go to Berkeley. I wanted to be in U.S. and begin working on music with the best musicians in the world!” Ferragamo further emphases he always knew he was going to be a musician and decided to move to New York City four years ago.

Ferragamo is from a well respected family which includes his grandfather who is famed Italian shoe designer, Salvador Ferragamo. The multi faceted musician says his family has been a supportive force in his blooming music career; “My family has been very supportive and growing up they taught me what it means to work hard to achieve your goals!”

Music & Common People

Ferragamo brings an engrossing marriage of varied music soundscapes, pulling out music elements from his influences which includes classic rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Guns’n’Roses to music genres like funk, Electronica, Pop and Jazz and creates his own noteworthy style of music, Ferragamo describes his music as being “a very uplifting, up to date pop sound with Urban influence and a lot of organic sounds. Guitar is my main instrument!”

The guitar serves as a fundamental part of his music making process. “Most of the times I start with some guitar riffs or melody or chord progression, then I start layering down a semi-form of the song, and then I start thinking of possible top lines.” At this point in the process, Ferragamo begins collaborating with fellow artists on the storytelling side; “I often love to share the creative process with some of my favorite songwriters/singers and rappers and see what they can come up with and put down lyrics ideas as well.” He adds, “I have learned that you always have to do what’s best for your song, and put your ego away.”

The recording sessions of “Common People” oozed a tranquil, easygoing atmosphere: ”I layed down some ideas, mainly acoustic guitars and grooves, played the music to my producer and that inspired the words.” Ferragamo hopes his music will have a positive effect on his listeners, “I want them to feel free, and peaceful. And to have some positive energy.”

Motivation & Challenges

When Ferragamo is not creating his own music he finds motivation from fellow artists. “John Mayer, Dua Lipa, Foster the People, Andrea Bocelli, Greta Van Fleet, Ed Sheeran, Halsey, Post Malone…just to name a few!”

Having a career in the music field is not easy, Ferragamo shares with us the hardest thing is standing out from all the other artists and musicians in the music industry. “To me, the most challenging is dealing with a lot of ups and downs. Music is amazing, but emotions are intense and it is a very competitive field. I try to always stay true to my art wich is what matters the most for me.”

We conclude our chat with an important piece of advice from Ferragamo for any aspiring artist: “Do it for the love of music first. It’s an amazing way to express yourself and to collaborate with people, build friendship and relationships. Never give up. There will always be difficult moments, but hard work pays off and if you are good at it and determined, at some point you will be heard!”

It’s only the beginning of Ferragamo’s artistic journey as he ventures on untraveled paths of music making and playing live shows. Ferragamo is ready to take on the world with his flaming brand of music leaving listeners inspired to follow their own dreams.
