Colombian filmmaker Ciro Guerra’s next project, Waiting for the Barbarians, just cast Johnny Depp to round out the cast that always includes Robert Pattinson and Mark Rylance.

The film is based on the allegorical novel by J.M. Coetzee and follows a British magistrate (Rylance) in a small colonial town who begins to question his loyalty to the Empire as he attempts to ignore an inevitable war with the so-called “barbarians. There still aren’t any details on what roles Deep or Pattinson will play.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Depp in an Indy film as he’s been mostly featured in blockbusters like Murder On the Orient Express, Pirates of the Caribbean and the upcoming Fantastic Beasts sequel but it looks like he’s going back to his roots. Meanwhile, Pattinson has been slowly making a name for himself by working with rejoin Indy directors like Claire Denise, Werner Herzog, David Michôd and Anton Corbijn.

We’ll bring more news about the project as they are revealed.
