Our newest book recommendation features the stunning debut YA Novel titled “a lite too bright” by Singer/Video Director/Author Samuel Miller.
Miller is best known for his other artistic endeavours such as being the frontman for Alternative rock band, Paradise Fears to directing music videos for Indie Pop Synth Band, flor and Alternative R&B Singer, Lostboycrow, Miller is now ready to ascend into his much awaited writing adventure.
The Young Adult novel, “a lite too bright” is a mystical journey that weaves self discovery, mental illness, love and the many facets of grief together creating a emotive relatable story. “a lite too bright” has been described as reminiscent of most notable books such as “On The Road” by Jack Kerouac and “Catcher in the Rye” by J.D. Salinger, while they do share some similarities, Miller brings a refreshing take on the literary genre with the use of complex poetic letters to drive the story’s arc in the most breathtaking way.
The story begins with 18-year-old Arthur Louis Pullman III in the mist of his world being turned upside down after life altering events have occurred. The teenager moves away to live with his uncle and aunt where he discovers an old journal from his namesake, his grandfather and famed author who also battled Alzheimer’s. His death is clouded with mystery as he disappeared from his family’s home in California and discovered dead a while later across the country. Arthur uncovers clues of his grandfather’s whereabouts before his death and embarks on a cross country train ride to gain insight on why his grandfather decided to go on a cross country trip before his death.
Miller possesses a vast amount of storytelling abilities as he gives his readers a glimpse at how mental illness can fog up one’s brain and how it affects loved ones. The novel takes it’s readers on an enchanting ride full of twists and turns exposing a much grander story of Arthur’s grandfather life. The core message of this intricate story is self acceptance, redemption and finding a purpose. If this is any indication of what’s to come, the future seems immensely bright for the young writer.
