I was fortunate enough to attend Folk/Soul singer, Allen Stone’s show at the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley, CA last week. The show was an extra date on his day off from his tour with the legendary band, Hall & Oates.

The night started with fans of all ages lined up outside the venue. By the time, the doors opened there was a couple of hundred people ready to get inside. The night was bound to be a dream due to it being a 2 hour intimate show that featured Stone with his guitar and a loop pedal a la Ed Sheeran.

The show itself was split into two parts with an intermission. The first half featured many of Stone’s slow jams from his latest exquisite album, 2016’s Radius, acoustic style such as “Where You’re At“,”Circle” and “I Know That I Wasn’t Right“. Stone provided many interesting stories of the making of many of his songs in addition to showing off his comedic side with the audience.

Stone kicked off the second half with an excellent soulful rendition of “Killing Me Softly” which was famously covered by Singer Roberta Flack and the Hip Hop group, The Fugees. The highlight of the night was when Stone performed his hit single, “The Wire“. Not only did his vocals hit the highest peaks and valleys, it rendered the crowd speechless with the powerful emotion coming out with each note.

Another amazing highlight of the night was when Stone performed his popular hit single,”Unaware” and the crowd became one and sang along in unison as Stone was completely lost in the moment. By the end of the night, there was no doubt in my mind of the magnitude of the talent Stone possesses. He has a charismatic stage presence and a warm humble heart that was exposed all night with his honest stories.
