As the promotional tour for Power Rangers continues, Lionsgate has been releasing new posters and interviews and videos for the film. A few months back we caught a peek at the new design for Goldar, Rita Repulsa’s right hand monster, which consisted of a creature coated in what looked to be melting gold.

In a recent interview with EW, production designer Andrew Menzies says explained the reasoning behind the new design. “Dean and I talked about him being faceless and intimidating and characterless. He’s an extension of Rita that’s unstoppable.” He modeled Goldar after a chocolate fountain, with a melting form that never settles into a single shape. “I think as humans we always search for character in a face, and if it’s always shifting and changing, it becomes scary,” he says. “If it moved like chocolate and kept flowing, you could never put your finger on it.”

“There’s something very beautiful about him,” Israelite explains. “All of the negative space that’s constantly in Goldar’s design feels very eerie, but on the other hand, he’s a kinetic sculpture.”

Lionsgate has also released 5 new posters to mark the beginning of the ticket sales online and the posters were debuted by Cinemark, Atom, AMC, Regal and Fandango and can all be seen below along with a new TV spot where the rangers first find the secret lair and meet Alpha 5.
