Thanks to Paramount we received an advance copy of the blu-ray and have one brought and done a brief summary and review of the bonus features which you can see below.

Reacher Returns
Tom Cruise describes Reacher’s personality as “taking care of people that can’t take care of themselves”. An avenger of justice. Righting wrongs. Bringing justice as he sees fit.

Screenwriter Edward Zwick felt there was more to tell about the character. He looked through Lee Childs books and found that “Never Go Back” is the best reviewed book. It had characters that allowed exploring Reacher in a new way. Production had the task of figuring out a way to establish the relationship between Susan Turner and Reacher (which actually happens in the span of 2 previous books).

An Unexpected Family
An in depth look at the process of casting or creating the right characters for each role.
Tom Cruise wanted the Jack Reacher franchise to be different than the Mission Impossible franchise. Reacher was created to be a man of action and this film was about exploring more what makes him tic. The kind of life he hasn’t had both personally and romantic.

Cobie Smulders is perfectly cast as a smart, strong, charismatic woman. The character of “The Hunter” was created to have Reacher meet his match.

Relentless On Location in Louisiana
The film was on a budget so the production crew tried to make the most out of every location. This often included creating multiple sets out of one place. The location scouts were able to film in a brand new unoccupied prison in DC was the scene of the escape chase.

Many of the scenes had to be filmed in a way that seemed plausible. It was a combination of filing shots on location and digital additions. The airports scene was tough with dealing with security and the FAA. Bringing it to life consisted of a lot of detail and having lots of people involved.

We also get an in depth look at the filming of the car chase scenes. From the setup to rehearsals and shooting with Tom at the wheel. Filming the foot chase in the French Quarter was challenging but exciting.

Take Your Revenge First: Lethal Combat
Patrick (The Hunter) and Cobie had a lot of basic training and intense stunt training before shooting any sequences. Cobie was trained to always have a level of intensity and connecting her movements. Every fight scene was choreographed and put together with the cast on set so the movements where fluid and believable. Some where created on the spot.

No Quarter Given: Rooftop Battle
The final fight scene went from being filmed on the floor level to taking place on the rooftops. The end of the fight was slowed down to give it more suspense and create tension.

Reacher in Ficus: With Tom Cruise and Photographer David James
David James gives a fantastic in depth look at his still photographer work in not only Jack Reacher but also other films. His goal is to always be invisible while getting the perfect shots.

Overall, the Jack Reacher: Never Go Back bonus features are perfect for the action fans and Jose who enjoy swing the play by play of the making of the thrilling action secquences. Seeing how the stunts and fights are painstakingly planned out is always exciting and eye opening.
