The first official footage from the Maze Runner sequel has finally been released by 20th Century Fox, and it looks great!

The two-minute trailer begins reminding us where the last movie left things off, “I think it’s safe to say that the Maze trials were a complete success. It’s too soon to say but they could be the key to everything,” we can hear in a voiceover. “It’s time now to begin Phase 2.”

The preview goes on to reveal that, while they may be out of the Maze, the trials are still not over. Thomas, Teresa, Minho, Newt and the rest of the Maze survivors will have to cross the Scorch Trials, the most desolated area in the planet after the sun flares hit earth. It’s a great first trailer that will definitely have fans talking for days! Watch below.

In an exclusive behind-the-scenes look for MTV, director Wes Ball has talked about the way he decided to adapt the source material. Rather than translating The Scorch Trials word for word onto the screen, he’s taken a more holistic approach. “Our approach has basically been to, you know, take the rest of his story, the next two books that he’s created, and we are making two movies out of that, rather than just a straight adaptation of the second book,” Ball said. “We need to start kind of laying a nice linear arc for these characters for the rest of the saga.”

The studio behind the franchise also released a brand new teaser poster for the film, showing our favorite set of characters walking through the desolated Scorch.
