The film adaptation of E.L. James’ first novel, Fifty Shades of Grey, is on track to have a great opening weekend at the North American box office.

Early tracking of the film, as shared by The Hollywood Reporter, shows that Fifty Shades could debut with at least $45 million. Optimistic observers predict that it will even cross the $50 million mark on its first weekend.

If the film manages to do so, it will instantly become a hit for Universal, who produced the film for $40 million. It would also set the stage for the studio to greenlit adaptations for the two remaining books.

Starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, Fifty Shades of Grey follows the characters of Anastasia and Christian, a young couple who pushes the limits of bondage sex. The book series has been widely successful, and it’s garnered attention for its racy nature. James’s books took the world by storm in 2012 and fans have surely been eagerly anticipating the film adaptation ever since.
